 Admission  

     The applicants for admission must be graduate in the field of humanities or social sciences. The applicants who are graduate in other fields may apply with the consent of the Department of Oriental Languages.

     The applicants for admission must meet the requirements stipulated by Regulations on Graduate Studies of Silpakorn University.

     Structure of the Curriculum 

Plan A:            The minimum required credits are 36 consisting of :

Required courses 14 credits

Required elective courses 12 credits

Elective Courses 10 credits

Total (course work) 36 credits

Thesis (equivalent to) 9 credits

Total 45 credits

 

Plan B:            The minimum required credits are 48 consisting of:

Required courses 16 credits

Required elective courses 18 credits

Elective Courses 14 credits

Total (course work) 48 credits

 

Course Requirements 

     Non-credit Prerequisite Courses:

314 306 Introduction to Linguistics 2 credits

315 301 Intensive Sanskrit 6 credits

 

      Required Courses constitute 14 credits for plan A and 16 credits for plan B consisting of the following:

      NB.   The figures following the courses signify the following: (1) the figure preceding the bracket signifies the credit (2) the first figure in the bracket signifies duration of a class in hour in a week, (3) the figure in the middle signifies the practical undertaking for a student, the last figure in the bracket signifies the self-study by a student.

     Required Elective Courses are devided into two branches, namely (1) The Branch of Sanskrit Literature and (2) The Branch of Religion-Philosophy. 

     Students must select either of the two as their major. The following courses in the two branches are to be selected to make up a required minimum of 12 credits for plan A and a required minimum of 18 credits for plan B.

     Elective Courses constitute a minimum of 10 credits for plan A and 14 credits for plan B. They are to be selected as follows:  
     Students of plan A must select courses from either of the two branches which has not been selected as their major to make up a minimum of 6 credits whereas the students of plan B must select them in the manner to make up a minimum of 8 credits;
    
in addition, students of plan A must select from the courses mentioned below to make up a minimum of 4 credits, whereas the students of plan B must select them to up a minimum of 6 credits.

     With the consent of their advisors, the students, however, may select any courses offered in any departments under the jurisdiction of Silpakorn University Graduate School to make up a maximum of 4 credits in stead of the required elective courses mentioned in (a). 

NB.   The courses numbered 315441-315 444 have courses numbered 315440 as their prerequisite; courses numbered 315 446, 315 447 has numbered 315 445 as their prerequisite and courses numbered 315 451-315 454 have courses numbered 315 450 as their prerequisite.
